In what Paul Loomis, Founder and CEO of Select Breeders Service, calls “the opportunity of a lifetime” SBS has moved into a brand new facility allowing for the expansion of SBS’s services to the breeding industry. The staff spent several days packing and preparing for the facility relocation which occurred over 2 long days and multiple trips with rental trucks and horse trailers containing office and laboratory supplies and equipment.
SBS, based out of Hilltop Farm, in Colora, MD for the past 18 years made the move to Chesapeake City on January 13th and 14th, 2011.
“While we will be forever grateful to Hilltop for providing such a wonderful place to further the growth of SBS, we have simply outgrown our facility there. The new location provides much needed additional laboratory space for development of new techniques and services and enables us to serve our clients more effectively".
All frozen semen storage and distribution will be managed out of the new facility aided by the addition of a 1500 gallon bulk nitrogen supply tank.
SBS will also continue to operate a semen collection and processing facility at Hilltop Farm to provide stallion services for their resident and guest stallions and for clients for whom collecting at the Colora, Maryland location is more convenient.
The new building is a state of the art, purpose built, equine reproduction center with a mare exam room, stallion collection room, 2 large laboratories for semen evaluation, processing and freezing as well as research, a larger frozen semen storage and distribution room, as well as ample office space. The visiting stallions will be housed in a beautifully crafted 8 stall barn and enjoy ample turnout space in 1 of 7 spacious paddocks. A highlight to the new collection facility is the custom designed hydraulic “SBS Paradise Phantom” which is automatically lowered after a stallion is collected to ease some of the stress associated with dismounting.
SBS is thrilled to offer continuation of our cooled and frozen semen services to current and future clients in this beautiful new facility. We look forward to expanding our services to fulfill the demands of the equine community. Our new location will also further our collaboration with Hassler Dressage and the new Riveredge Equestrian Complex and the many new programs being developed there.
To properly welcome friends and clients for tours, we will be hosting an open house once the weather improves and the finishing touches are complete. In the meantime, if you find yourself in the Chesapeake City area please stop in for a visit. We hope to see you soon!
