In April 2015, Dr. Scofield and the staff at SBS Veterinary Services are pleased to announce the addition of Trans-Vaginal Oocyte Aspiration (TVA) as a service offered at their clinic in Chesapeake City, Maryland. TVA, also known as Oocyte Pickup, shows promise in producing foals from the most reproductively challenging mares and stallions with limited frozen semen reserves. As Dr. Young explained in last months Blog article, Ovum Pickup in the Mare, TVA and Intra-cytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI) offer the latest in assisted reproductive technology to help produce foals.
SBS Veterinary Services strives to bring the latest state of the art reproductive technologies to breeders in the Mid-Atlantic Region. This new service involves TVA of mature equine oocytes from donor mares and subsequent shipment to one of three nationally recognized laboratories for ICSI. The resulting embryos are developed in vitro to a blastocyst stage that can then be transferred back into recipient mares here at SBS-VS or vitrified (frozen) for later transfer. For more information about freezing equine embryos please read Dr. Scofields article, Cryopreservation of Equine Embryos.
Dr. Scofield is happy to discuss the process, provide a detailed description of the procedure and the costs associated for interested clients. He can be reached at (410) 885-3202 or at davidscofield@selectbreeders.com.
