On the evening of September 8th, 2011 Select Breeders Southwest, Inc. of Aubrey, TX celebrated their 20 year anniversary with an Open House and Silent Auction to benefit ManeGait Therapeutic Horsemanship of McKinney, Texas. Approximately 70 people from the community came to support this wonderful charity and tour the world renowned facility. The evening was filled with great food, live music and therapeutic riding demonstrations. ManeGait relies on volunteers as well as horse and monetary donations in order to provide this rewarding service to those in need. With the help of the events co-sponsors, silent auction donors and bidders we were able to raise $6,125.00 for ManeGait and it’s riders.
Riders like Julie (on the grey pony in the photo above), who has been taking equine therapy riding lessons since she was two years old. Born at 25 weeks and only weighing a little over one pound, her parents were told she would never walk or talk. The fact that at age 11 she can do both is a miracle. She and her parents give all the credit to the equine therapy she has received which allows her to continue to surpass obstacles which others said she would never overcome.
