Select Breeders Services Italia has had a busy summer period with the organization of the 2nd Embryo Transfer course held at SBSItalia’s facility “Cascina Cristella” in San Daniele Po (Cremona). SIVE (Italian Association for Equine Veterinarians) and SBSItalia hosted eighteen enthusiastic participants, veterinarians from all over Italy and Europe (photo left), for a two day intensive program. Drs. Sandro Barbacini and Denis Necchi spoke about Advantages and Disadvantages of Embryo Transfer technique and Mare Management of the ET Recipients. A full day was dedicated to the practical course and the participants were able to perform flushing and embryo search using six recipient mares provided by SBSItalia.
Ovum Pick Up and Embryo Transfer have become more popular techniques and continue to be performed at the facility with success.
The 2012 breeding season is knocking at the door and SBSItalia is pleased to have already scheduled eight Quarter Horse and Arabian stallions for freezing and worldwide distribution of the semen. Our EU approved center will also stand four Trotters on behalf of some long standing customers and will provide fresh semen distribution throughout Europe.
SBSItalia has been extremely busy with international shipments of frozen semen and we are looking forward to another successful season!
There has been a lot of traveling for SBSItalia veterinarians due to consulting programs we have with breeding farms in the Middle East and participation as speakers at International meetings on Equine Reproduction. Dr. Sandro Barbacini is actually on his way to India and will speak at the WEVA 2011 about: What's New in Mare Reproduction, How to Breed the Performance Mare (management of fresh & frozen-thawed semen), Low Dose Insemination and Frozen Semen Processing and Quality Control. Dr. Denis Necchi has been invited by Utrecht University and the Equestrian Students Association (VHiVer) to give a lecture on Ovum Pick Up to students on November 1st.
Finally …Congratulations to Dr. Gianmaria Postinger and Carola Pareto for their wedding, September 3rd 2011! The honeymoon was spent in Australia and during their stay they traveled to Tamworth (NSW) and visited Stuart Keller’s Tamworth Equine Veterinary Centre, one of two Select Breeders Services Affiliated laboratories in Australia.
