Francesca Fasani and her daughter, Sara D’Imperio, run a small Quarter Horse farm. It is located in Angera, Northern Italy on the shores of Lake Maggiore and not far away from the Swiss border. Francesca started breeding horses almost 40 years ago when she and a friend bought a Trotter broodmare. However, many years later Francesca came to experience the world of Western Riding when she bought an Arabian Horse of the Asil line that had already been trained in this discipline.
After having acquired a passion for this type of riding, it was natural for Francesca to decide to buy her first Quarter Horse, a stallion by the name of Sail Win Cody (photo bottom left; Doc Sailwin x Karens Fortune). He had successfully competed in the disciplines of Reining and All Around. This gray stallion was purchased in 2000, when he was 8 years old. Despite his 21 years, he is still present in perfect shape in the Azienda Agricola I Platani stables. During his career as a stallion, Sail Win Cody sired Sail Win Tattoo (photo above left; Sail Win Cody x Tattoos Twickle Twist). Sail Win Tattoo was ridden by Sara D' Imperio and won many awards such as Champion Maturity Level 1 & 2, Reserve Champion Level 3 & 4, Champion 3, Champion 4 Limited and Intermediate Non Pro at 23 Classic.
Blaze Em On (photo right; Blazing Hot x Regal Asset) was Sara’s gift for her 18th birthday. This Quarter Horse pleasure stallion arrived at I Platani in 2007. Unfortunately, after a very short time he suffered a serious injury that impaired his show career. After this injury, Sara and Francesca decided to begin Blaze Em On’s breeding career with the intent to produce foals that could be shown by Sara. The first two foals produced by Blaze Em On, a two year old named Blaze The Sky (Blaze On Em x Put Your Dress Up) and a three year old name Ngo Blaze (Blaze Em On x Go Ahead and Pass), are both interesting prospects for the disciplines of Western Pleasure and All Around.
Semen from Sail Win Cody and Blaze Em On has been successfully frozen by Select Breeders Services Italy (SBSItalia) and is currently available to be used in Italy and all of the European Union countries. Francesca said this about using frozen semen, “The reason why we decided to use this reproductive technique is because it allows us to export semen of our stallions outside of Italy, especially as the major markets for Sail Win Cody and Blaze are currently Germany and Austria. Also, last but not least, the fact that we had frozen semen of our two stallions has also allowed us to sell breedings without owning a reproduction facility.”
When asked why she chose SBSItalia Francesca went on to say,
"The decision to use SBSItalia for the services of freezing, storage and distribution of international semen of our stallions has been made based on the professionalism of all the staff members of this team. With the help of SBSItalia, shipping Sail Win Cody and Blaze Em On frozen semen across Europe has always been a very simple experience! "
