Select Breeders in Maryland welcomed affiliate members from around the world on November 17th and 18th, 2015 for the 15th Annual Meeting of SBS Affiliated Laboratories. The purpose of the SBS Annual Meeting is to review procedures and policies, share information and experiences, discuss recent developments in the industry and set plans for the future. This year we welcomed two new affiliate labs. One is Reid and Associates Equine Hospital in Wellington, FL and the other is our first affiliate in Central America, I.A. Servicios de Costa Rica S.A.
As always we had a variety of informative presentations and discussions on equine reproduction topics. Our guest speakers this year were Dr. Elizabeth Woodward from the University of Pennsylvania New Bolton Center who talked about “Equine Endometrial Response to Bacteria and Semen” and Dr. Samantha Brooks from the University of Florida who gave a presentation on “Genomic Approaches to Solving Real Health Problems: Applications in Reproductive Physiology”.
This year we also included a welcome reception and social gathering where our local clients had an opportunity to meet our affiliate members from the United States and around the world. Many of our clients utilize the services of our affiliate locations for storage and distribution of frozen semen or for breeding management of their mares and stallions which may be competing internationally or resident out of state.
Also, for the first time we were able to offer continuing education (CE) credits through RACE/AAVSB for participating veterinarians. We believe this provides one more additional benefit for our team members who participate in the SBS Affiliate Program.
Once again it was a successful event! We all renewed our shared mission to promote the successful use of frozen semen by raising the standards of production and educating the industry about the benefits of frozen semen.
