During the 16th World Equine Veterinary Association (WEVA) Congress held in Verona, Italy this month, Dr. Sandro Barbacini was named the WEVA President. The WEVA has been promoting equine education since 1985. According to their website, the goal of WEVA “is to advance the health and welfare of horses worldwide by promoting and offering quality continuing education for equine practitioners, specifically in countries with limited access to high quality, broad-based professional education.” Prior to his current position, Dr. Barbacini served as their Jr. Vice President.
Dr. Barbacini has been a member of the SBS Affiliate Laboratory program since 2000 when he formally created SBS Europe. Since that time, he has overseen the work performed by the many SBS Affiliates in Europe and is responsible for implementing the rigorous quality control standards for which SBS is known. He is an accomplished author of more than 30 scientific papers in both bovine and equine reproduction. He is also a member of several professional veterinary associations which include the American Association of Equine Practitioners (AAEP), the Society for Theriogenology (SFT), the British Equine Veterinary Association (BEVA), and the Italian Association of Equine Practitioners (SIVE).
We wish to congratulate Dr. Barbacini on his recent election and thank him for his continued service to the veterinary community throughout the world!
