Mare Breeding Management
  • Breeding Soundness Exams
  • Fresh, Cooled or Frozen Semen Breeding Cycle Management
  • Uterine swab culture, cytology, and/or low volume uterine lavage for culture and cytology
  • Endometrial biopsy
  • Uterine therapy with large volume lavage and antibiotic and non-antibiotic treatments
  • Application of misoprostol to oviductal papilla via deep horn technique 
Foaling
  • Management of low-risk and medium-risk pregnant mares
  • Pre-foaling monitoring and care including examinations and appropriate vaccinations
  • Daily and overnight monitoring of pregnant mares for parturition
  • Foaling attendance by veterinarian and assistant 
  • Assisted vaginal delivery with option for trailering to New Bolton Center for controlled vaginal delivery or cesarean section, if needed
  • Neonatal examination and bloodwork
  • Routine foal monitoring with scheduled thoracic ultrasounds, vaccinations, and deworming protocols according to AAEP guidelines
Embryo Transfer
  • Breeding management and uterine flush for embryo recovery
  • Synchronization with our SBS owned recipient herd for fresh or vitrified in-vivo embryo transfer
  • Evaluation and synchronization of client-owned recipients for fresh or vitrified in-vivo embryo transfer
  • Processing of fresh in-vivo embryos for shipment to outside recipient herd or to specialized laboratory for vitrification 
Assisted Reproduction Techniques
  • Transvaginal follicular aspiration for oocyte recovery (TVA)
  • Oocyte processing for shipment to ICSI laboratory of choice
  • On-site recipient herd or client-owned recipient management for warmed vitrified ICSI (in-vitro) embryo transfer
  • Storage and distribution of vitrified embryos

Please note the following:

  • Foaling date based on 340 days of gestation
  • Deworming is not included in these calculations. Please consult with your veterinarian
  • SBS recommends more frequent ultrasound checks during gestation to ensure placental health and proper gestational development of fetus
  • CTUP is combined thickness of uterus and placenta.
  • Serum Progesterone levels may be pulled between days 25 – 40 of gestation to ensure proper progesterone levels in mare.
